Currently (December 2011) there is also an attractive option for mobile web access offered by the Dominican communication company
VIVA . You simply purchase the stick for a little less then $RD 2200 and then pay $RD 500 per week when you need it. It is a pure pre-paid contract and you are not tied up with any long term payments.
There is no GB traffic limit on this option (flat). The data speed stipulated by
VIVA is 3.1 Mbits, which is less then 3.6 Mbits offered by its competition CLARO. However, tests by
Caribation Labs have shown that the
actual connections speeds were faster at VIVA then at CLARO in the same time and environment.
Tip:
VIVA does not have a territorial coverage as broad as CLARO. If you are going to need Internet access in remote locations please check how VIVA connects there. A way to do it is to go to a VIVA sales point (green logo) in your location of choice and ask them to display a big website like msn.com (making sure that the sales person uses VIVA herself)
