Alternative transport options

Night ride, lots of luggage, emergencies, small children, airport pickup, bad weather - these are the typical reasons, why is it worth to order a taxi.

On a calm, sunny day, however, you can also try some other alternatives. In Boca Chica, locals as well as tourists are frequently taking Motoconchos and Guaguas to arrive to their destinations.

Motoconchos

You'd drive in the back seat of a Chinese or Indian motorcycle. Without a helmet. There will be some adrenaline, at least the first time. Traffic regulations ... better forget it. The price (2019) is quite affordable: RD$ 25 (US$0.50). On the routes from tourist areas (Parque, Duatre, Hamaca) the price goes up to RD$ 50. Free of charge are suitcases, beach lounge chairs, pets and children.

Guaguas

The Guaguas are just minibuses seating about 20-25 passengers. Usually a Mitsubishi or Toyota. A typical route to take a Guagua would be from Boca Chica to Old Town of Santo Domingo (touristy!). It gets a bit tight and you will rub the elbows with fellow passenger, but at least a seat is guaranteed.

There are two types of Guaguas : Expreso or Normal. Expreso have air conditioning and music, often also WiFi and generally are in a better technical shape. Prices to Santo Domingo: RD$ 70.00 or RD$ 60.00 respectively.
